Club Brugge 2-1 LASK
Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau will be playing UEFA Champions League football for the first time in his career after his Belgian side Club Brugge beat ten-man LASK of Austria 2-1 in the second-leg of the play-off round and 3-1 on aggregate on Wednesday night at Jan Breydelstadion.
Brugge were holding a 1-0 lead from the first-leg and there was no goals in the first stanza of the second-leg, where Tau was introduced from the bench straight after halftime in place of Lois Openda.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock with 20 minutes remaining, courtesy of Hans Vanaken, who made it 1-0 and 2-0 on aggregate. However, that lead was short-lived as the visitors were awarded a penalty four minutes later that was converted by Klauss.
The Belgian side gained the upper hand with nine minutes remaining after Gernot Trauner got a second yellow card for LASK and was sent off. Emmanuel Dennis sealed Brugge’s spot in the last minute after being set up by Tau.
Ajax Amsterdam 2-0 APOEL Nicosia
Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam qualified for the group stages of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League after a 2-0 victory over APOEL Nicosia in the second-leg of the play-off round tie.
Ajax were held to a goalless stalemate in the first-leg encounter in Nicosia and they finished the job at home in the second-leg, although it took until the 43rd minute before Edson Alvarez broke the deadlock for them.
Dusan Tadic gave the hosts an insurance goal with ten minutes remaining and Ajax held on in the end to clinch a 2-0 victory and win by the same scoreline on aggregate, to go through to the Champions League group phase.
Slavia Prague 1-0 CFR Cluj
Slavia Prague of Czech Republic earned themselves a spot in the group stages after edging Romania’s CFR Cluj 1-0 in the second-leg on Wednesday night at Sinobo Stadium.
Slavia Praha won the first-leg 1-0 and had the added advantage of having scored that goal away from home.
They made things easy for themselves after they broke the deadlock in the 66th minute thanks to Jan Boril and managed to hold in the end to win 1-0 again and 2-0 on aggregate.
