Bayern lift sixth Champions League title

UEFA Champions League

Bayern Munich bagged their sixth UEFA Champions League title after edging Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final in Lisbon on Sunday evening.

One change apiece paved the introduction for Kingsley Coman ahead of Ivan Perisic for Bayern, while Keylor Navas recovered from an injury to take back his place in PSG’s goal.

Manuel Neuer came to Bayern’s rescue following the earlier exchanges after using his legs to thwart Neymar following a through ball from Kylian Mbappe, as the French side threatened first.

The Bavarians almost broke through 22 minutes in when the deadly Robert Lewandowski controlled a telling ball close-by before cracking the post after setting himself up nicely in the box.

Focus shifted to the substitute’s bench for Bayern three minutes thereafter as Niklas Sule entered in place of Jerome Boateng, who hobbled uncomfortably moments prior.

Lewandowski posted another threat two minutes after the half-hour mark with a smart header off Serge Gnabry’s cross bringing Navas to his first save of the night, while Kylian Mbappe squandered a glorious opening at the other end just before the interval.

PSG were kept on the back-foot soon after the halftime interval, but Thiago Silva -making his final appearance for the French outfit- monitored every threat.

The Ligue 1 champions were finally breached on 59 minutes when Coman got ahead of Thilo Kehrer in the area to head into the bottom corner following Joshua Kimmich’s smart delivery.

Thomas Tuchel’s side began threatening all the more soon afterwards, with Neuer needing to make himself big to parry Marquinhos’ shot from point-blank range following a flick-on.

The Germans ran down the clock following the final minutes to land their sixth European title and second treble in seven years, as PSG’s wait for this prestigious crown rages on.
