City stun Real as Ramos sees red

UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester City

Manchester City came back from a goal down to edge ten-man Real Madrid 2-1 and got two crucial away goals in the round of 16 first-leg encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos had three changes in the line-up, as the injured Eden Hazard was replaced by Vinicius Junior, with Ferland Mendy and Federico Valverde both tagging along. Meawhile, City manager Pep Guardioa made two big calls, as Gabriel Jesus started ahead of Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho was also dropped, with Nicolas Otamendi getting the nod.

However, City's Eymeric Laporte picked up a knock he half-hour mark and he was replaced by Fernandinho.

After missed chances from both sides in the first stanza, Guardiola's men made a costly error at back on the hour-mark and were punished by Isco, who fired home with a clinical strike from Vinicius Junior's pass.

Jesus snatched the equaliser for the Citizens 12 minutes before time before Kevin De Bruyne gave City a 2-1 lead in the last seven minutes from the penalty spot.

There was drama in the last four minutes as Los Blancos had to finish the game without their captain Sergio Ramos, who was red-carded for denying Jesus a goal-scoring opportunity.

The Citizens gained a big advantage heading to the second-leg in three weeks' time in Manchester, with a lead and two vital away goals.

Olympique Lyonnais 1-0 Juventus

Juventus have put their chances of going through to the quarter-finals in doubt after losing 1-0 to Olympique Lyonnais in the round of 16 first-leg tie at Groupama Stadium.

Bianconeri recalled the centre-back pairing of Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci while Miralem Pjanic and Adrien Rabiot were also brought back into the line-up.

Despite a cagey start, Lyon broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark courtesy of Lucas Tousart, who guided a strike to the top corner from Houssem Aouar's cut-back on the byline.

The Old Lady were unable to claw their way back into the contest in the second stanza, as they slipped to defeat and will now head to the second-leg in Turin a goal down and without an away goal.
