Ronaldo: We were lucky I scored

UEFA Champions League

After Cristiano Ronaldo helped salvage a draw for Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, the Portuguese striker has reacted to the match, saying the Red Devils were "lucky he scored".

Ronaldo struck twice at the back end of each half to save United's blushes against Atalanta as the game finished 2-2.

The Premier League giants seemed to be heading for defeat as the Serie A side were 2-1 up in the 90th minute, but Ronaldo's added-time strike from just outside the box saw United share the spoils.

After the game, the 36-year-old striker admitted his side were "lucky" to have walked away with anything on the night.

"It was a difficult game," Ronaldo told BT Sport.

"I know that when we play Atalanta it's difficult, and we believe until the end that I will help my team get the three points and I'm so happy.

"We never give up, and believe until the end. It's a good result for us, I think.

"The beginning was tough, Atalanta have a fantastic coach and they know what to do. I knew when I played in Juventus. We did our job well.

"We are lucky I scored, but that's football.

"We still have to improve. We have different players and different systems. We have to adapt but it will take time. We have time to improve."
