UEFA has released the list of nominees for the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League awards, but both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were overlooked.
Champions Bayern Munich dominate this season's nominees list for the tournament's positional awards, with players from the Bundesliga club occupying an incredible seven of the 12 available spots.

That number includes goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, defenders David Alaba, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich, midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Thomas Muller, and tournament Golden Boot winner Robert Lewandowski.
There is, however, no place for perennial contenders Messi and Ronaldo, while none of last season's award winners, which included the likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Frenkie de Jong, were nominated either.
"The jury comprised the coaches of the 32 clubs in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League group stage, together with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media group, one from every UEFA member association. Coaches were not allowed to vote for players from their own teams," UEFA explained of its selection process.
"Jury members chose their top three players per position, with the first receiving five points, the second three and the third one. The three players who got the most points in each category made up the final shortlist."
