Benzema equals incredible Messi record

UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has equalled one of Lionel Messi's incredible UEFA Champions League records.

Benzema was in goalscoring again form for Los Blancos on Tuesday night when his 87th minute strike inspired the Spanish giants to a dramatic 2-2 draw with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Upon finding the back of the net, the 32-year-old wrote his name into the competition's history books by becoming only the third player after Messi and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs to have scored in 16 Champions League seasons.

Benzema is also only the second player to have achieved the feat in consecutive campaigns, just a week after Messi set the new benchmark during FC Barcelona's win over Hungarian side Ferencvarosi.

The former France international netted in four UCL seasons with Olympique Lyon before moving to the Real in 2009, with whom he has gone on to score in the competition in each of his 12 campaigns with the reigning LaLiga champions.
