Barca star 'cried' after loss to Bayern

UEFA Champions League

Following FC Barcelona's humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League this week, one of their stars reportedly broke into tears in the dressing room after being substituted off.

As Barca's opening 2021/22 UCL match failed to go according to plan, Sergi Roberto was left shattered after he was booed by fans at the Camp Nou as he was substituted off the pitch.

Here are some images from the match between Barca and the Bavarians on Tuesday

Roberto spent 60 minutes on the field before being taken off, and was whistled at every time he touched the ball moments before being substituted.

According to AS, the star was in so much distress after coming off that he could not hold back the tears in the dressing room. It is also reported that the Blaugrana co-captain could not understand why his own team's supporters had berated him after he had given his all.

Fellow club captains Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets were said to have tried comforting him at the time, but the 29-year-old midfielder, who played at right-back on the day, was in too much of a state.

Pique later jumped to his co-captain's defence when conducting a post-match interview.

"It hurts me a lot personally because I know this person [Roberto], he's a spectacular human being and he loves this club more than anybody," he said, per AS.

"I'd like to remind people also that he's not a fullback… he's a central player, a midfielder. He's made a sacrifice to play this position and he's done it phenomenally many times.

"It hurts a lot but the people are free to voice their opinions, but if you ask me personally, it hurts a lot."
