Pep Guardiola's Citizens retain their spot at the top of the table after spending around €1.036 billion (R20 billion) in transfer fee expenditures to build their current squad, including add-ons, which is €22 million more than last year.
That figure trumps the reported €888 million (R17 billion) it cost Paris Saint-Germain to piece together their squad, while Manchester United complete the top three with a total cost of €844 million (R16 billion).
FC Barcelona and Chelsea round out the top five positions ahead of the champions of Spain, England and Italy, namely, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus, while Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich only rank in 15th place.
