Bendtner faces Wolfsburg axe

UEFA Champions League

The former Arsenal frontman has been released from all training duties by his club, who are now considering his future, with a year still left on his contract.

Coach Dieter Hecking has not considered Bendtner for selection for over a month, with the Danish international made to train on his own following a series of misdemeanours, with the club now evaluating their options.

“The current situation is unsatisfactory for everybody and it cannot endure,' Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs said on his club's website.

“For this reason, we sat down again on Wednesday and, together with his agent, we discussed solutions.”

The outcome of that meeting was Bendtner’s banishment from club training, with a more concrete outcome regarding his future expected in the coming weeks.

Bendtner has already been fined by the club twice this year: he was punished in February for driving a Mercedes Benz to work, with the club sponsored by Volkswagen, while earlier this month, the Dane was handed a hefty fine for arriving to training 45 minutes late.

Bendtner has scored just two goals in 13 league appearances for the Wolves this season, with his overall tally just nine in 47 matches in Germany.

Wolfsburg, who lie eighth in the Bundesliga standings, face Real Madrid in their Champions league quarter-final showdown next week.
