Inter Milan secured the bragging rights in the Derby d’Italia courtesy a 2-0 win over Juventus in Serie A on Sunday evening.
A notable alteration from Inter following their 2-2 draw against AS Roma saw Ashley Young re-instilled as Arturo Vidal started against his former club, while Giorgio Chiellini returned for Juventus.
Inter launched the first scare six minutes in when Marcelo Brozovic drilled a low free-kick just outside the six-yard area wide of the bottom-corner.
However, the accuracy in front of goal from Juventus showed minutes later as Cristiano Ronaldo tapped in a low cross from the right-side, but it disallowed for offside.
The Nerazzurri however bagged the lead 12 minutes gone after Vidal attacked an in-swinging ball from Nicolo Barella to nod into the near corner.
It should’ve been two for Inter closer to the half-hour mark when a curling strike from Romelu Lukaku saw Wojciech Szczesny palm straight at Lautaro Martinez, who skied over.
Lukaku also missed an inviting chance from a cutback in the area minutes to halftime shortly before Martinez dragged a loose pass from close-range wide of the mark.
Inter finally bagged a second seven minutes in the second half when a cross-field ball from the left by Alessandro Bastoni met Barella, who raced goal-wards to thump into the top corner.
This instantly pushed Juve manager Andrea Pirlo into making a triple change, as Dejan Kulusevski replaced Aaron Ramsey with Weston McKennie in for Adrien Rabiot and Gianluca Frabotta withdrawn for Federico Bernardeschi.
Antonio Conte’s men still managed to find openings as the closing stages approach, but Brozovic and Martinez in particular fired blanks.
Juventus nearly reduced the deficit in the dying minutes from a snap-shot in the box by Federico Cheisa, but Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic stretched across to parry as it ended 2-0.
