Inter 'preparing' €260m move for Messi

Serie A

With Lionel Messi's contract at FC Barcelona set to expire at the end of next season, Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly willing to pay the Argentina superstar €260 million to join them.

Messi's future at Barca has come under question over the past few months after it was reported that the record six-time Ballon d'Or winner would not be renewing his contract with the club at the end of his current deal.

Those rumours were fueled this past week when reports emerged that Messi's father, who is also his agent, was planning to move to Milan in order to benefit from the country's more lenient tax regulations.

Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, who were the first to break the news of Messi Sr's supposed plans, have since claimed that Milanese giants Inter have set aside a sum of €260 million (R5.2 billion) to pay for the Barcelona star's services.

With Messi set to become a free agent next July, that amount would not go to Barca in transfer fees, but would instead be paid towards the player's wages over the course of a proposed four-year deal that would keep him at the club until the age of 38.
