Real & Bayern target R1.7bn African star

Serie A

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are reportedly ready to battle it out for the signature of a Nigeria star who could command an asking price of €100 million (R1.7 billion).

Victor Osimhen has started the season in fine form, with nine strikes in 11 games for Napoli, and it appears that his goalscoring exploits have garnered him some attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The African forward joined Gli Azzurri from Lille in September 2020 for a club-record fee of €70 million (R1.1 billion), making him one of Africa's most expensive players of all time, and the 22-year-old could soon be on the move again.

According to Diario AS, Julian Nagelsmann's Bayern have now joined Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos in the race for the striker's signature.

Both sides have a 2021 Ballon d'Or nominee in their attack, though, with Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema, respectively, starting for their teams.

The issue both clubs face, however, is that their talismanic forwards are in the latter stages of their career, with both set to turn 34 years old in the next few months.

A potential stumbling block in any move for Osimhen, though, is the €100 million (R1.7 billion) fee that has reported as the asking price for the Super Eagles star, which would force the Bundesliga giants to break their transfer record should they agree to pay it.

Another team that is also reportedly keeping tabs on the goal-getter is Tottenham Hotspur, who could be looking for a Harry Kane replacement after his transfer saga with Manchester City in the most recent transfer window indicated a desire to leave the London club.
