Kompany provides Tau injury update

Amid fears that Percy Tau could be sidelined until the new year, Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany has provided a positive update on the Bafana Bafana star's injury status.

Tau has been unavailable for selection for the Belgian giants since 26 November, when he suffered a muscle injury in training, and was previously reported to be at risk of being sidelined until after the turn of the year.

However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star could make a return to action sooner than expected after Kompany provided an update on his, Hendrik Van Crombrugge and Yari Verschaeren's respective conditions ahead of this weekend's clash against Sporting Charleroi.

"All in all, Yari's diagnosis was fantastic news," Kompany said ahead of Tuesday's Jupiler Pro League encounter against KV Oostende, per Voetbal Primeur.

"We all feared the worst, even missing the [UEFA] European Championship. Now I think he will be able to reconnect pretty soon in January. First spend Christmas with his family, but then we'll see Yari again.

"Percy Tau is also doing well. He works in the gym and I may be able to count on Percy by the end of this week. We look at the situation day by day with Hendrik Van Crombrugge. The smallest injuries are often the hardest to get rid of."

In separate reports, Belgian publication Voetbal Nieuws h/t Het Laatste Nieuws claim that Anderlecht are preparing for the possibility that Brighton & Hove Alboin will look to terminate Tau's loan deal in January.

Brighton included a re-call clause in the 26-year-old's agreement with Anderlecht which could now be activated next month, once clarity has been obtained on the new work permit regulations following Brexit.

Tau has been unable to feature for the Premier League outfit since joining the club in 2018 as a result of the country's strict work permit regulations, but could finally get his shot in England's top-flight if these rules are relaxed.
