Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany has explained Percy Tau's absence from the "Belgian Clasico" over the weekend.
Bafana Bafana forward Tau was a notable absentee for Anderlecht on Sunday as the record 34-time Belgian champions played out a 0-0 Jupiler Pro League draw with Standard Liege in the Derby of Belgium.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has been a key player for Kompany's side this season but was ruled out of the highly-anticipated encounter after sustaining a muscle injury in training on Thursday.

"Percy Tau is already withdrawn," Kompany confirmed ahead of the clash, per RTBF. "It is obviously a big [loss] because he is one of the leaders of the team, one of the rare players with experience and who has already proved quite a bit at Belgian level."
"But, at the same time his absence opens up opportunities for other players as well and I prefer to see it that way."
While the extent of Tau's injury has not been revealed, local publication Het Laatste Nieuws report that Tau could be ruled out for the next two weeks, with his earliest possible return date being Anderlecht's clash against KRC Genk on 11 December.
