Brighton not giving up on Percy Tau

Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly not given up hope on Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau playing for the club in the near future.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star joined Brighton in 2018 for what was reported to be a domestic record fee of R50 million, but has spent the last three seasons on loan in Belgium after failing to secure the required work permit.

According to reports from England, the Premier League side has received numerous offers to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent deal, but are holding on to the hope that a possible rule change will allow him to play for the club before long.

"Certainly, the plan very much is to still bring Percy in at the first opportunity," a source close to Brighton reportedly told The Argus.

The publication claim the Seagulls have received more offers for Tau's signature "than any other player" but are waiting to see if the country's current endorsement requirements for a work permit will be amended as a result of Brexit before considering allowing him to leave.

Tau previously starred for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, where he was named the Belgian second division's 2018/19 Player of the Season, and Club Brugge, with whom he featured in the UEFA Champions League and won the domestic top-flight title, before joining Anderlecht at the beginning of the current campaign.
