Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has been ruled out for the remainder of 2020 after RC Strasbourg confirmed he will have surgery on his knee.
Mothiba, 24, has suffered a major blow ahead of his third season with Strasbourg after the recurring knee injury that has plagued him over the past 12 months resurfaced in their pre-season friendly against Montpellier last week.
The towering striker lasted 20 minutes in the encounter before being substituted for a 'knock' and shortly after the game he played down the incident on social media - but manager Thierry Laurey has now confirmed he's set for surgery.
"It's a problem with a tendon in the knee that he's had for a little while, we prefer to fix it once and for all," Laurey confirmed to French news outlet DNA. "Lebo will be unavailable for four to five months, until January."
