Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet could be pipped to promotion to the Belgian top-flight by a fellow South African.

While Percy Tau has lifted the Jupiler Pro League by virtue of the season being cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis, compatriots Keet and Kurt Abrahams of Oud-Heverlee Leuven and KVC Westerlo respectively await patiently.

With the usual relegation play-offs from the top-flight cancelled, Waasland-Beveren have already been confirmed relegated by the Pro League board of directors but the promotion has yet to be decided.

The First Division B is split into two tournaments with the winner of each playing a two-legged play-off tie in order to determine an overall champion.

Keet's OHL won the first half of the season, while Germinal Beerschot won the second half and in the only play-off fixture thus far, Beerschot won the first leg 1-0 but the second leg is yet to go ahead.

"The management of the Pro League will be charged to adjust the federal regulations regarding the players' entitlement to play on the date of this game and not on the originally scheduled date," the Pro League statement read.

"If the promotion final is not completed before the start of the new season, the club with the highest number of points in the championship of 1B with a valid license for 1A, being KVC Westerlo, will be promoted to the Jupiler Pro League."

If the play-offs manage to be played out before the new season begins, OHL will still have a chance to secure their passage to the First Division A.

It's also been confirmed that the 2020/21 campaign will be played in an adapted format with 30 straight fixtures without the play-off system previously used.
