USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks have announced that George Lebese will remain on the club’s roster for the 2021 campaign, pending league and federation approval.

Lebese, whose one-year deal with the Switchbacks expired at the end of last season, will once again form part of the club's squad for the upcoming campaign after penning a new contract on Wednesday evening.

"I'm very excited for yet another opportunity with the Switchbacks," Lebese told the club's official website. "A great challenge lies ahead in the 2021 season with a wonderful stadium downtown. I'm looking forward to working hard with the group and making the fans proud."

The Bafana Bafana midfielder joined the US-based outfit in December last year after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, and marked his debut season abroad with two goals and two assists in 16 USLC appearances.

"George meant a lot to the club this year. While he had some big moments on the field, he also brought tremendous value to the locker room," Switchbacks' general manager Brian Crookham said.

"Retaining him allows us to build around his experience as we put the finishing touches on a roster that we believe will fight for a play-off spot from day one."

Lebese's deal comes just days after the Switchbacks signed former New York Red Bulls midfielder Steven Echevarria, while the club has also exercised its contract option on Andre Lewis, Aidan Daniels and Sean Melvin.
