Ndlovu suffers promotion heartbreak

Bafana Bafana striker Dino Ndlovu has narrowly missed out on securing promotion to Chinese Super League (CSL).

Ndlovu, 30, saw his hopes of playing in the CSL next season dashed when his Zhejiang Energy Greentown side suffered a 1-0 (3-2 aggregate) defeat to Wuhan Zall in the weekend's promotion play-off.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United striker had recorded a goal and an assist in the first leg of the encounter last week, but was unable to replicate his performance on Sunday as Zhejiang succumbed to a solitary goal from Wuhan's Li Hang.

Zhejiang's failure to secure promotion to the Chinese top flight will have come as a major disappointment for Ndlovu, who became the club's all-time record goalscorer with his effort in the first leg of the play-off.

The eight-time capped Bafana Bafana striker has netted 42 goals in 66 appearances for Zhejiang since moving to China, which is enough to have broken the club record previously held by Brazilian striker Anselmo Ramon.
