Finnish Veikkausliiga side FC Honka have confirmed the signing of South African striker Darren Smith from Ekenäs IF.
The announcement comes just days after Smith, 24, was officially crowned as second division's Golden Boot winner after netting 18 goals in 22 league appearances for Ekenäs in the 2020 Ykkönen campaign.
"When I came to Finland, my goal was to play in the Veikkausliiga," the former SuperSport United striker told the club's official website after being unveiled.
"However, I knew I had to go step by step. I had options for this season, but the decision to come to Honka was very easy in the end. I think Honka’s style of play fits my strengths very well.
"In addition, of course, the place in the [UEFA European Conference League] for next season was a big factor. Honka clearly showed that they are interested in me and I immediately felt welcome in this company."
Kickoff.com is informed that Smith, who has made the jump to top-flight football after just a single season abroad, has signed a one-year deal with the three-time league runners-up which includes the option of a further year extension.
