Rangers head coach Steven Gerrard has confirmed Bongani Zungu could feature against Benfica after returning from Bafana Bafana duty with an injury.

Zungu, 28, impressed on his debut for the Gers in their 8-0 the drubbing of Hamilton before the FIFA International break and played a pivotal role in Bafana's two wins over Sao Tome and Principe in their 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

However, the lanky midfielder returned to Glasgow with a knock which ruled him out of the league leaders 4-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.

But Gerrard is hopeful that he can feature in their UEFA Europa League clash against Benfica on Thursday evening as they look to further their lead at the summit of Group D.

"He has got a knock that we are assessing and checking out at the moment," Gerrard said, as per The Scotsman.

"We don't think it is big so you could see him on Thursday against Benfica, hopefully. But don't be surprised if he takes a little bit longer. But it is not a big problem, it is only days rather than weeks or months."
