Rangers have finally broken silence amidst the speculation linking Bongani Zungu to the 54-time Scottish Premier League champions.

Zungu, 27, is poised to leave Amiens after their relegation to Ligue 2 due to the premature cancellation of the French top-flight season during the coronavirus crisis.

While he is currently back at the club for pre-season training, Rangers is believed to be in negotiations to lure him to Scotland to bolster manager Steven Gerrard's midfield for the 2020/21 season.

His agent Alexis Ramalingam confirmed earlier this month to KickOff.com that several clubs have made enquired about his availability, the links to Rangers over a reported £4-million move have been persistent within Scottish media.

"We know who Zungu is but our recruitment in bringing players to the club is ongoing," he explained when asked about the Amiens midfielder.

"We've been speaking about hordes of players since lockdown. We are constantly on the lookout for players who can come into our team and make it better."

While Gerrard currently holds an array of central midfield options in the form of Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Ross McCrorie, Jamie Barjonas and Greg Docherty - Zungu's ability as a box-to-box midfielder is believed to have intrigued the Scottish giants' technical staff.

Added to McAllister acknowledging the widespread reports, long-term midfield target Niklas Dorsch (22) completed a move from Bundesliga 2 side FC Heidenheim to Belgian side Gent this week.
