Bongani Zungu's move to Scottish Premier League giants Rangers has reportedly hit a snag as manager Steven Gerrard issued a plea to the club's board.

Zungu, 27, reiterated his desire to leave Amiens in the current off-season as he looks towards a new challenge following their relegation from Ligue 1 and the move to Ibrox has appealed to the South African midfielder.

It was reported in Scottish media that Rangers launched an opening bid of £3.8-million to the French outfit after Zungu expressed his interest in the transfer but the two clubs have now been at loggerheads over the fee.

According to The 4th Official, Rangers tabled a 'concrete' offer to Amiens which included several add-ons clauses and performance-related bonuses but the initial sum offered has not met the original asking price.

It's been claimed that Amiens are holding out for the £4.1-million valuation for the box-to-box midfielder who has become a primary target for the Gers after losing out to Gent in the race for 22-year-old Niklas Dorsch.

Amidst the ongoing negotiations ahead of the prospective move, Gerrard opened up about the transfer dealings ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

"We need more," the former Liverpool captain said, as per The Express. "I have told the club that, I've been honest and open with what I feel we need.

"In terms of where we are at from a financial point of view, they are questions for other people – but I have made it quite clear that we need to add to what we've got.

"We need to add players into the 11 to make us stronger and then, naturally, that will make the squad stronger. At the moment, we still need to get people in the door."
