Amiens chief gives Zungu update

Following reports that Bongani Zungu's proposed move to Rangers has fallen through, Amiens president Bernard Joannin has now given an update on the Bafana Bafana star's future.

Zungu is widely expected to leave Amiens following the club's relegation from Ligue 1 last season, and was recently linked with a move to Rangers in Scotland.

Negotiations with Steven Gerrard's side appear to have fallen through, however, with unconfirmed reports in France suggesting that the 27-year-old failed a medical after arriving out of condition and overweight.

Joannin has since given an update on the South Africa international's future, and revealed that the club has offered him a new contract and the chance to leave on a short-term deal.

"Bongani Zungu was offered an extension and to be loaned to another club. It's in progress," he told Courrier Picard, as loosely translated.

While Joannin did not disclose the name of the club (or clubs) Zungu has been offered to, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star has been linked with a move to Racing Strasbourg and Celta Vigo in recent weeks, while reports in Scotland cite interest from an unnamed German team as well.

The Duduza-born midfielder joined Amiens in 2017 and has made 57 appearances for the club thus far, including 24 across all competitions last season.
