SA-eligible wonderkid seals Serie A deal

Norwegian-born wonderkid Alwande Roaldsøy, who is eligible to represent South Africa, has completed a move to Serie A side Atalanta.

The 16-year-old has officially joined last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists on a three-year deal after completing a move from Norweigian fourth division side Drøbak-Frogn IL.

Roaldsøy previously underwent a trial with the Italian outfit before putting pen to paper and is expected to team up with the club's youth sides this season.

A midfielder by trade, the promising youngster represents Norway at youth level but is eligible to pull on the Bafana Bafana jersey as a result of his maternal lineage, with his mother being South African.

"I have some butterflies in my stomach, but this will be fun. I have been received very well," Roaldsøy told Norwegian publication VG following his move.

"This is the best academy in Italy. I thought I was not going to get any better deals than this so I jumped at the chance.

"The goal for me is to debut in Serie A as soon as possible. I think I can do it before I am 19. I have talked to a number of players who are one or two years older, and there are already 2003-born players who train with the A-team.

"I have a goal of training with them in 2021. Guaranteed. I have to try that."
