Pule, Dino score, Ayer makes history

Players Abroad

It was an incredible week for South African players abroad with Keanin Ayer making history, while 'Pule' Ekstein and six others produced headline displays.

Kurt Abrahams

The 22-year-old winger scored his fifth goal of the season in the Proximus League as Westerlo drew 1-1 at home with Lommel - leaving them in third place.

Keanin Ayer

In one of the most remarkable stories of the season, 19-year-old midfielder Keanin Ayer's breakthrough season was capped off the promotion to the Swedish top-flight.

The modest Varbergs BoIs narrowly avoided relegation last-season via the playoffs and now see themselves in the Allsvenskan 12 months later.

Ayer featured 75 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Mjallby on Sunday, which saw the visitors win the league title.

Overall, the teenager missed just one of 30 games this season, due to suspension, racking up 27 starts, two substitute appearances - scoring two goals and registering two assists.

The Amajita star came on at halftime of Sunday's 2-1 away loss to Anderlecht - which marked his eighth appearance in the Belgian top-flight.

Cercle remains in last in 16th place, with just one win in 14 games overall.

Despite his impressive form, Greentown fell short of promotion with a sixth-placed finish.

Ayanda Patosi

Patosi came off at halftime for Baniyas in Thursday’s 2-1 away loss to Kalba. The result sees them drop to 10th place in the UEA Pro League.

Lebogang Phiri

Phiri grabbed two assists in a midfield masterclass as Guinhamp thrashed Chambly 5-1 away from home to move in sixth place in Ligue 2.
