Veldwijk completes surprise transfer

Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk has completed his transfer from Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Veldwijk, 28, has agreed to sign a two-year contract with the K-League champions who are currently in pre-season preparations.

The South Korean side announced on their official website that the striker with 'overwhelming physical power' has been brought in as their marquee signing.

"Despite his tall stature, he has good body balance and speed, so he can play inside the box and breakthrough from the wings," the statement read.

"In particular, he is expected to be in charge of scoring the team at the forefront with Lee Dong-Guk because of his excellent goal conversion rate."

The South Africa international who scored 24 goals in 36 games last season expressed his delight with his latest venture.

"It's a great honour to be able to do the first challenge of the K-League stage with the best team in Asia," Veldwijk said.

Veldwijk could make his first appearance for the two-time Asian Champions League winners against Dynamo Dresden on Saturday in their first pre-season fixture.
