Ahly star reveals Pitso, Weiler differences

Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly SC defender Ayman Ashraf has revealed how Pitso Mosimane differs from his predecessor Rene Weiler since his arrival in September.

Mosimane replaced the Swiss tactician on 30 Septemeber after his contract was mutually terminated as he looked to return home during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cairo.

And since then, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss has earned widespread praise as he's led the Red Devils unbeaten towards the end of the league campaign and thrashed Wydad AC 5-1 in the CAF Champions League semi-final.

While former players have noted his tactical changes already, Ashraf claims his man-management is what the rest of the squad have picked up on since his historic appointment.

"Mosimane loves to be close to the players and the psychological factor is important to him," the 28-year-old said on local radio, as per KingFut.

"He tries to help the players who don't play games often. Weiler had a similar approach but Mosimane does that relatively more."

Ashraf also noted that since his arrival, each game was treated with the utmost respect, with attention to detail in tactical and psychological preparation.

"Our numbers in the league were good both defensively and offensively, and mean that we dealt with every game like cup matches," he explained.

"The overall shape was good [in these games] and I hope that our efforts will be rewarded with the CAF Champions League title."
