Salah left out of Egypt's Olympic squad

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was left out of Egypt's squad for the Olympic Games, while six Al Ahly stars were named in the squad despite the upcoming CAF Champions League final.

Salah would have been one of the overaged players in the squad, but head coach Shawky Gharib reveals talks with the Reds were not successful.

There were six Al Ahly players included in the final squad, which includes goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy who is one three overaged stars.

Ahmed Hegazi and Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh were the other two players considered for the overage bracket.

The Pharaohs were drawn in Group C alongside Argentina, Spain and Australia.

Defenders: Ahmed Hegazi (Ittihad Jeddah), Mahmoud El-Wensh, Mohamed Abdel-Salam (Zamalek), Ahmed Fetouh (Zamalek), Osama Galal (Pyramids FC), Ahmed Ramadan Beckham (Al Ahly), Karim El-Eraky (Al Masry), Karim Fouad (ENPPI).

Midfielders: Akram Tawfik (Al Ahly), Nasser Maher (Al Ahly), Amar Hamdi (Ittihad of Alexandria), Emam Ashour (Zamalek).

Forwards: Ramadan Sobhi (Pyramids FC), Ibrahim Adel (Pyramids FC), Abdelrahman Magdy (Ismaily) Taher Mohamed (Al Ahly), Salah Mohsen (Al Ahly), Nasser Mansi (El-Gaish), Ahmed Yasser Rayan (Ceramica Cleopatra).
