Former Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Hendrick Ekstein has made headlines abroad after an impressive showing against Michael Essien's Sabail.
After a promising start to his career in the Premyer Liqasi with an assist on debut, Ekstein's transition into life at Sabah took a slight blip by being substituted at half-time twice before being dropped over the next month.
However, with Elshad Ahmadov sacked as manager after the winless start to the season, the 28-year-old was reinstated into the starting XI by caretaker coach Rövshan Babayev.
Featuring in a deeper midfield role he excelled in towards the later stages of his Amakhosi career, Ekstein stole the show against Sabail, with a composed display in the 3-0 win.
Described as the 'heartbeat' of the team's display in local media, the dimiutive midfielder earned further recognition after being named in the Team of the Week.
Ekstein will now be aiming to build on his display when Sabah face up against Champions and league leaders Qarabag at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium on Sunday at 18:00 (GMT+2).
