Ghana record goalscorer Gyan Asamoah has completed a shock move to the Indian Super League after being released by Kayserispor at the end of last season.
Asamoah, 33, is widely considered as one of Africa's greatest ever goalscorers with 51 goals in 107 caps for the Black Stars.
However, his club career has not enjoyed similar success since leaving UAE Pro League side Al Ain in 2015 with spells in China and Turkey not producing that sort of form that made him Africa's highest paid footballer.
Having only scored five goals in 17 appearances for last season, the eccentric striker's contract was not expired before his AFCON 2019 participation in Egypt.
And now North East United have confirmed the arrival of Africa's leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
"I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career," the veteran striker told the club's website.
"I have heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season. I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year."
Gyan becomes the tenth African to join the club after the likes of former Orlando Pirates star Isaac Chansa, Nigeria striker Bartholomew Ogbeche and Ivory Coast duo Romaric and Didier Zokora.
