Paris Saint-Germain have revealed that club-record signing Neymar went AWOL, after the Brazilian failed to show up for the Ligue 1 giants' first day of pre-season training.
Neymar, 27, has been heavily linked with a return to FC Barcelona in recent weeks, and speculation surrounding the superstar's future has intensified after the world's most expensive player failed to turn up for the first day of pre-season training.
The former Santos talisman missed the Selecao's Copa America triumph due to injury, but was scheduled to return to Paris on Monday to commence pre-season training with the Parisian giants. He, however, failed to do so, prompting his club to release a statement.
"On Monday 8 July Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was due to return to pre-season activities with the Paris Saint-Germain senior squad," a club statement read.
"Paris Saint-Germain notes that Neymar Jr was not in attendance at the agreed time and place. This was without the club's prior authorisation.
"The club regrets this situation and will therefore take appropriate action."
