PSG plan mass exodus to keep Mbappe

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to sell nine players in order to ensure that Kylian Mbappe gets a bumper new contract with the same wages as Neymar.

The Ligue 1 giants have invested heavily in their squad over the past decade after they were bought by the Qatari royal family, but Les Parisiens now find themselves with an oversized 39-man squad.

The French club has completed the free signings of Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma, as well as the capture of Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan, while sporting director Leonardo has reportedly secured contract extensions for first-team stars such as Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Keylor Navas, Julian Draxler and Juan Bernat.

The club's next priority is to offer a bumper new contract to Mbappe, who could become a free agent at the end of the 2021/22 campaign if he does not sign an extension.

To do this, PSG are said to be willing to sell nine players in order to ensure that they can offer the France star the same wages Neymar is getting in the hope that this will help persuade him to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond next season.

L'Equipe has claimed that goalkeeper Alphonse Areola will be allowed to leave after the arrival of Donnarumma and the extension of Keylor Navas' contract, while Argentine striker Mauro Icardi will be joining his teammate on the transfer list after a difficult two-year spell since his move to Paris from Inter in 2019.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly does not see the 28-year-old forward as part of his plans as the club aims for a title charge in the 2021/22 season.

The arrivals of former Real Madrid duo Ramos and Hakimi have also seemingly led to Abdou Diallo and Thilo Kehrer becoming surplus to requirements, while Idrissa Gueye and Pablo Sarabia could also exit the club in this window – scroll through the gallery above to see some more PSG stars who could soon be sold!
