Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has set tongues wagging after insisting he wants to play alongside Lionel Messi next season.

Neymar was speaking to the media following PSG's 3-1 UEFA Champions League Group H victory over Manchester United on Wednesday when he revealed his desire to reunite with former FC Barcelona teammate Messi next season.

"What I want most is to play with Messi again," Neymar said, as reported by AS. "I want to play with him. I'll let him play in my position if he wants! Next year, we have to play together, for sure."

The 28-year-old spent four seasons with the Argentine superstar at the Camp Nou, during which the duo played 161 times together, forming two-thirds of one of the world's most prolific attacks at the time alongside Luis Suarez.

Messi's future has been in doubt since he handed in a transfer request in the previous transfer window and, with his contract at Barca set to expire at the end of the season, he could be set for a move away from the Catalan giants.

PSG have been linked as one of the favourites to land the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's signature if he elects to leave the Blaugrana, although the Ligue 1 giants will face competition from Premier League side Manchester City.
