Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has opened up about his unique goal celebration that paid tribute to his friend and NBA legend, Kobe Bryant, who passed away in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Neymar netted a brace for for PSG against domestic rivals LOSC Lille to extend their lead at the Ligue 1 summit to 10 points.
However, his celebration in honour of Bryant left a lasting impression at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday evening, which Neymar has since reflected on.
"I saw the messages [about Bryant] on social media at half-time," Neymar told Canal+.
"It's a big sadness for the world of sport and for all of us, not just basketball fans. I knew him and I did this celebration for him. I hope he will rest in peace."
The Brazil international also paid his respects on Twitter, along with several other football superstars after the tragic event that saw Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna among nine people to lose their lives.
"Sad day for us in sports, for us fans and especially for family and Kobe friends," Neymar wrote. "A legend has been made with your hands, thank you for extolling the Kobe sport. May God comfort the hearts of your family and friends."
