Real Madrid's newest star has revealed that Kylian Mbappe tried to get him to join Paris Saint-Germain instead.

On Tuesday afternoon, Los Blancos unveiled new signing Aurelien Tchouameni after reaching an agreement with AS Monaco on the weekend to sign the player for an initial fee of €80 million (R1.3 billion), plus add-ons worth €20 million (R335 million).

Before the Spanish giants secured the rising French star's signature, though, both PSG and Liverpool were reportedly interested in the young midfielder.

Tchouameni ended up joining the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League winners, however, who themselves were dealt a massive blow a few weeks ago when their top transfer target, Mbappe, seemingly had a last-minute change of heart and decided to sign a new three-year contract at the Parc des Princes.

During the 22-year-old's unveiling at Real Madrid City on Tuesday, Los Blancos' newest acquisition explained how Mbappe asked him to consider joining Les Parisiens instead.

"Kylian decided to stay at PSG and already knew I was going to leave Monaco," Tchouameni said, per the Daily Mail.

"Mbappe spoke to me, and asked me if I could come to Paris. But I told him I wanted to join Real Madrid, my choice was always Madrid.

"He understood my decision, he's happy for me."

The defensive midfielder made 35 league appearances for Monaco last season, helping them to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 and netting three goals in the process.
