Suarez: Why Messi has suffered in Paris

Ligue 1

Former FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has seemingly revealed a perhaps surprising part of the reason why Lionel Messi has endured a difficult start to life with Paris Saint-Germain.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has come in for some criticism since joining the French giants as he continues to adjust to life in Ligue 1 and search for the goalscoring touch he once showed with the Catalan giants.

Having moved to Paris in August, Messi has scored just four times in 13 appearances across all competitions, and appears to be en route to his lowest goalscoring season since the 2007/08 campaign, when he ended with 16 strikes to his name.

Suarez, who thrived with Messi during their time together at the Camp Nou, has now shared details of a conversation he had with the Argentine that could explain why the PSG star has "suffered" during his stay in France to date.

"We talk every day; we always try to avoid expectations because we are players, and we know how we have to act in those moments, we talk about the games, about the family," the Uruguayan said in an interview with TNT Sports Argentina.

"He told me that when he is playing in the cold, he suffers a lot and with the snow.

"You have to get used to what the cold weather there is like."
