PSG drop more points in Ligue 1

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain once again let a healthy lead slip from their grasp after drawing 2-2 with Troyes in Ligue 1 action on Sunday evening.

As always, the recently crowned champions line-up included the fearsome attacking trio of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar Junior.

The Parisans didn’t take long to get going as Marquinhos slammed a cross from Angel Di Maria six minutes in to hand his side the early lead.

It was almost two within seconds after Di Maria worked out a cutback from a clever pass by Marco Verratti and brought a solid right-hand save from Troyes number one Moulin.

Ultimately, PSG extended their tally when Mbappe won a penalty in the area following a rash sliding tackle by Erik Palmer-Brown and Neymar came forth and executed the spot-kick.

Troyes pulled one back with three minutes to the half-hour mark when Ike Ugbo dispossessed Nuno Mendes in an advancing area and barged into the area to beat Keylor Navas with a close-range shot.

PSG looked to have grabbed a third goal when Neymar scored from rebound after Messi's initial shot crashed against the woodwork, but the offside flag went up.

Although, the visitors displayed calmness after halftime and levelled when Renaud Ripart went down in the area from a foul by Presnel Kimpembe which Florian Tardieu fired beyond Navas.

The Parisans rallied back and regained the lead through a snap finish from Neymar following a ball by Mbappe, but it was disallowed as the latter appeared to have fouled Palmer-Brown in the build-up.

Despite the disappointment, the champions didn’t lose hope and continued to go forward in the hope of a winner soon before full-time with Georginio Wijnaldum and Idrissa Gueye introduced in the latter stages.

PSG still pushed forward in stoppage time and a one-two from Wijnaldum and Messi saw the Argentine take aim and thumped against the woodwork from the edge of the box, as the side had to settle for a share of the spoils.
