Mbappe seals comeback win for PSG

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain came from a goal down to edge Angers 2-1 in Ligue 1 without Lionel Messi and Neymar on Friday evening.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Verratti and Kylian Mbappe were the only ones that kept their spots from PSG’s line-up that lost to Stade Rennes.

Paris Saint-Germain grinded the first chance earlier on after a ball over the top from Ander Herrera picked out Mbappe to get a shot away following a run onto the mentioned delivery.

That missed chance came back to haunt PSG ten minutes before halftime after Angelo Fulgini attacked a low ball into the area to pounce past Donnarumma.

PSG looked to have gone back level with a minute before halftime as Herrera’s looping header flew over goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni, but it was ruled out following an offside.

The Parisans began the second half dictating the balance of play which had the away team seeing little in defence and attack, as Rafinha’s low shot from a chip into the box directed wide.

Mbappe looked to give the host a way back from a free-kick 30 yards out though he managed to get the effort over the wall but unfortunately not at the desired target as it skied over.

PSG introduced a double substitution midway in the second half with Juan Bernat brought in for Abdou Diallo and Rafinha removed for Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Parisans got back level with 20 minutes to go after Danilo Pereira took a floated ball from Mbappe in his stride to tuck into the net.

Mbappe secured the winning goal three minutes from time with a penalty conversion after Pierrick Capelle was deemed to have handled the ball in the box by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
