Bongani Zungu was sent off as Amiens suffered a 2-0 defeat to Lille in the French League Cup on Wednesday evening.
The Bafana Bafana international started in midfield for the away side after missing the French Cup penalty shoot-out loss to Rennes over the weekend.
However, Zungu's evening ended before the halftime break as the former Mamelodi Sundowns man picked up his second booking of the game in the 38th minute and was sent for an early shower.
Amiens were able to stifle Lille until the 50th minute when Luiz Araujo opened the scoring for the home side after some good work by Domagoj Bradaric.
After missing a couple chances in the first stanza, Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen made amends as he doubled the lead for the hosts two minutes before the hour-mark with a low strike from the centre of the box after receiving a through ball from Boubakary Soumare.
Zungu's Amiens suffered the same fate as Lebogang Mothiba's Strabourg, who were eliminated by Reims on Tuesday evening.
Amiens will resume thier Ligue 1 campaign at home against Keagan Dolly's Montpellier on Saturday evening.
