Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has admitted that his side might not be able to afford to register their latest marquee signing.
The Catalan giants announced in December that they agreed to a €55 million (R996 million) deal with Manchester City for Ferran Torres.
This move is comfortably the most expensive signing of the January transfer window, but it appears that the Barca fanbase will have to wait a little longer before they see the club's latest acquisition in action.

There remains an air of uncertainty with regards to when the 21-year-old will be allowed to make his competitive debut but, in the meantime, the Blaugrana hierarchy have been urged by the head coach to free up funds from their wage bill.
Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday’s clash with RCD Mallorca, Xavi revealed that Ousmane Dembele's reported contractual standoff plays a pivotal role in the club's hopes of registering the Spanish winger.
"Ferran Torres is a spectacular signing, both as a player and a person," the 41-year-old said, per Sports Bible.
"He’s coming off an important injury, he has fantastic commitment, he’s going to give us a lot, I’ve no doubt about it. He can play in different positions, I’m very happy with the effort made by the club to get him.
"We’ll see how the salary cap situation is, if it’s possible right away.
"There has to be players leaving.
"If we get Dembele to resign his contract and lower his pay it will allow us to sign Torres and we hope that it can happen.
"His greatest virtue is his personality, he’s very ambitious, excited, implicated with a high commitment, you can see it in his eyes.
"The mentality he has is tremendous, hopefully you will be able to see it soon."
