FC Barcelona's reported pursuits of both departing Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann and Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar has been deemed "impossible" due to financial concerns.
The Blaugrana have been heavily linked with moves for both Griezmann and Neymar in the current transfer window, but European football expert Julien Laurens has cast doubt over Barca's ability to complete a double deal for the superstar duo.
"How can they afford €120 million for Antoine Griezmann, which is his release clause that kicks in on 1 July, plus his wages that were €16 million net at Atletico Madrid, and surely he would have got more going to Barcelona?" he said, as per the Daily Express.
"Plus the €220 million for the Neymar transfer fee plus his €32 million-a-year net (in wages).
"The numbers just don't add up, it's impossible for them to do both, to afford them both.
"Even if they sell half of their squad and get half of their squad off the wage bill, I don't see how they can afford them both.
"I'm sure they would love them and who wouldn’t? Imagine having Neymar and Griezmann and Dembele and Suarez and [Lionel] Messi or even if you sell Dembele, even if you let Suarez go to MLS, I don't think they can afford it, I don’t know how they would.
"They can try if they want to, but surely, surely, that's too much for them."
Laurens also suggested that securing the signature of the world's most expensive player in Neymar is now more of a priority for Barca than that of Griezmann's.
"It’s going to end with Neymar going to Barcelona and Antoine Griezmann having to find somewhere else to go," he added.
"Whether he had signed a pre-agreement with Barcelona, or they shook hands and had a verbal agreement, I just fear for him that right now Neymar has overtaken him in the transfer pecking order for Barca maybe because (Lionel) Messi wants him more than he wants Griezmann, maybe because Suarez wants him more than he wants Griezmann as well.
"Right now, I would be far more positive if I was Neymar than if I was Griezmann."
