Real legend in line to replace Zidane

Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez has been touted as a possible candidate to replace incumbent club manager Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane is contracted to Los Blancos until the end of the 2021/22 campaign but has seen speculation surrounding his future mount in recent weeks amid rumours linking him with a move to Serie A giants Juventus.

Spanish publication AS report that the reigning LaLiga champions want to hold to the Frenchman despite the club's indifferent form this season but have begun putting contingencies in place to cover his potential departure.

In this regard, Real are said to have identified former club captain Raul and current Germany coach Joachim Low as two candidates to replace Zidane, in the event that the 48-year-old no longer finds himself in Madrid next season.

Raul is said to be the favourite to take over the reins due to his progression through the club's youth ranks to his current role at the Castilla, while Low remains an option after he announced his intention to step down as Germany boss after this year's UEFA European Championships.

The former scored 323 goals in 741 appearances across all competitions during his playing career with Real, which was an all-time club record until Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed his tally in September 2016.
