FC Barcelona manager Quique Setien has responded to Lionel Messi's explosive criticism of the side on Thursday night.

The Catalan giants were dethroned as LaLiga champions after Real Madrid secured the title with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal on Thursday night.

Messi surprisingly did not hold back after the game as he labelled the team 'weak' and sent a warning ahead of their UEFA CHampion League match against Napoli.

"I am responsible for our situation, as I am the manager of the team," Setien said, according to Metro.

"I hope we will face the Champions League this summer as a different team, but I am not sure about what happens next for me.

"I agree with the post-match comments from Lionel Messi about self-criticism, and we must look at ourselves in the coming weeks."

The Catalan giants will be hoping to finish the season on a high away to Alaves on Sunday night, before they welcome Napoli to the Camp Nou next month.
