Barca break silence on Messi exit talk

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has broken silence on speculation that captain Lionel Messi is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his current contract.

Spanish publication Cadena SER revealed on Thursday that Messi called off contract talks with the LaLiga giants after becoming disillusioned by the club's hierarchy and expressed his desire to leave at the end of next season.

"I'm not going to give details of the negotiations, but he has said many times that he wants to finish his career at Barca," Bartomeu told Movistar+.

"Right now, we are focused on the competition and there are negotiations with lots of players. Messi wants to continue at Barca and he wants to end [his career] here. He has many years left and we're going to enjoy him for a long time."

Messi has won 34 trophies and scored 630 goals since making his first-team debut for the Spanish giants as a 17-year-old back in 2004.
