Messi 'agrees' new deal with Barca

After a lot of talk around his future, free agent Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed to a new deal with Barcelona, accepting a shocking condition on his new contract in the process.

According to Sport, Barca and Messi have agreed to a deal in principle on a new five-year deal, which will see the star accept a massive 50% pay cut.

The Argentina captain has reportedly accepted the terms of the new deal as he understands that the club's current financial situation is a dire one, which has required the Blaugrana to offload a number of their stars in order to comply with LaLiga's salary regulations.

It is further claimed that details of his new contract will soon be finalised by Barcelona and Messi's representatives, and that the termination clause will be set at €350 million (R6 billion).

It is believed, however, that it could still be a week or more before the Blaugrana make an official announcement regarding Messi's new deal.
