Atletico Madrid made a positive start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Getafe, as both sides ended a man short.
Kieran Trippier, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur, connected with Alvaro Morata for the opener on 23 minutes as the Spaniard nodded past David Soria.
Afterwards, Getafe were first to see red through Jorge Molina’s rough challenge with Renan Lodi following suit three minutes to the break.
Getafe pushed for a leveller in the second half, but Atleti, who missed a penalty through Morata, sustained all coming their way for an opening day triumph.
