Real frustrated by Europa champs

Real Madrid endured a frustrating evening against Villarreal CF in LaLiga after playing to a goalless draw on Saturday night.

Federico Valverde deployed at right-back for Los Blancos, with Luka Modric and Carlos Casemiro recalled from the emphatic win over Real Mallorca on Wednesday.

Madrid experienced a tough start from the Yellow Submarine, who through a shot on the inside-right of the six-yard area by Arnaut Danjuma worked Thibaut Courtois to an outstretched save.

Although, Madrid started to get a foot-hold on matters closer to the half-hour mark and watched a cross-cum shot from the right by Rodrygo produce a flying near post save from Geronimo Rulli.

Unai Emery’s team weren’t bothered by Madrid’s adventures and still troubled their more fancied host ten minutes inside halftime with a shot from a tight angle by Danjuma going narrowly wide.

Los Blancos’s introduction of Eduardo Camavinga ahead of Rodrygo following halftime signalled renewed energy in which Karim Benzema headed a ball from the right wide with the goal in sight.

Madrid’s battle wasn’t complete and needed Courtois to be at his best minutes later to prevent the troubling Danjuma from breaking the deadlock with a low first-time strike following a sweeping move.

After Isco squandered a good headed chance, the host continued to battle away as time began to run out, but no breakthrough or last-minute drama unfolded as the encounter scoreless in the Spanish capital.
