Real Madrid hit Mallorca for six

A rampant Real Madrid thrashed Real Mallorca 6-1 at home on Wednesday evening to regain top spot in LaLiga.

Carlo Ancelotti made four alterations from Sunday’s entertaining win over Valencia, as Eduardo Camavinga got a first start with Marco Asensio, Miguel Gutierrez and Rodrygo drafted in too.

Madrid’s intentions were apparent three minutes in when Karim Benzema nicked a loose ball off Josep Gaya following a sloppy back-pass to race clear and beat Manolo Reina with ease.

Los Blancos had their lead doubled just after the midway stage where a block from Reina off a square ball towards the area by Rodrygo saw Asensio capitalise with a close-range finish.

Lee Kang-In granted the visiting outfit a lifeline when he escaped a few challenges on the brink of the danger area before applying a curling finish past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

However, Madrid suppressed the visitors' hopes within a minute of the half-hour mark after Asensio picked up a through ball from Benzema to go on and blast beyond Reina.

As on-loan Madrid youngster Takefusa Kubo entered for Mallorca after halftime, Los Blancos bagged a fourth goal as Benzema tapped in a low ball by Rodrygo but it was disallowed following a foul.

The fourth goal followed eventually after Asensio completed his hat-trick 55 minutes in when he curled a cutback on the edge of the area by Benzema into the bottom-corner.

Thereafter, Mallorca struggled to contain Madrid who bagged a fifth inside the remaining 12 minutes through a snap finish from close-range by Benzema following David Alaba’s ball.

Madrid added more to Mallorca’s woes with eight minutes remaining after Isco drilled a ball across the area from Vinicius Junior past Reina, leading to an emphatic triumph and top spot.
