Benzema hat-trick sends Real top

LaLiga

Real Madrid moved to to the summit of the LaLiga table after defeating Celta Vigo 5-2 on Sunday evening, with Karim Benzema netting a hat-trick.

Madrid returned to their traditional home the Santiago Bernabeu after 18 months, but were without Gareth Bale and David Alaba unavailable through injury.

There was no warm welcome for Real though as four minutes in, Iago Aspas played a loose ball to Santi Mina to go on and apply a confident low finish beyond Thibaut Courtois.

Los Blancos waited until the midway stage to go level as Karim Benzema drilled a low volley from a ball across goal by Federico Valverde into the ground en-route to the roof of the net.

Celta reclaimed the lead a minute from the half-hour mark after Franco Cervi flicked a low cross from Hugo Mallo against the post before firing in at the second time of asking.

The travelling side surrendered the lead just after halftime when Benzema towered over Jeison Murillo to head Miguel Gutierrez’s cross into the top corner.

Vinicius turned it around midway through the second half as he beat the offside trap to go clean on goal before beating Matias Dituro with a low and composed finish from Benzema’s ball.

Celta could’ve restored the lead a little later on through a half-volley from a tight angle by Aspas, but Courtois produced a solid reflex save, whilst Madrid introduced new signing Eduardo Camavinga.

A dream debut followed for the highly-rated Camavinga as he bagged Madrid’s fourth goal with a simple finish off a rebound by Dituro who had spilled a shot from Luka Modric.

Benzema capped off a five-star performance with three minutes to go when he fired home from the penalty-spot to complete a hat-trick after Vinicius drew a foul.
